HAGAR'S PAIN

(For Toni Morrison)

there is a blue feeling
that roams
in the body of the dark
black cotton-haired women
the worlds people
seem to like them less
make them suffer
for carrying the stamp of slavery
on their faces
made to live without mirrors
they are left
like rotten apples
to die untouched by love
tears are squeezed from their eyes
stolen rain
to fertilize others wombs
their love is used to wipe clean
lives of those who plant oppression
death is rooted in this system
their salvation lives
in the destruction of imperialism  ##
