Portside (the left side in nautical parlance) is a
news, discussion and debate service of the Committees
of Correspondence for Democracy and Socialism. It
says it aims to provide varied material of interest to people
on the Left. Heretofore , we were  under the impression that Portside  is the Internet's voice of the Left.  But it turns out to be the Internet's voice of the fundamentalist Far-Left, which, like all fundamentalist organizations, adheres to an orthodoxy and consequently refuses to post dissident or differing opinions from within the Left---such as HATE YOUR GOVERNMENT BUT LOVE YOUR COUNTRY, available to be read in SECTION ONE of COLUMN SEVENTY.  Fundamentalists, like fascists, will not tolerate any disagreements or variations from the fundamentalist orthodoxy.

This article was published by the Washington Post a few days after the W.T.C. terrorist attack.

Prior to 9-11 a top secret Intelligence network, operated by the U.S, the UK, Israel and other European nations, had uncovered a terrorist plan to use hijacked commercial aircraft as a weapon in an attack on U.S., Italy and Israel. They also knew that some suspected terrorists had received flight training at a school in Florida and the training they received did not cover take off and landing of a jet aircraft. These guys had no Interest in learning how to land the plane. One doesn't have to be an Einstein to figure out what they planned on doing once they took control of the aircraft.

What did the Bush Administration do when this info became available???   Who knows?? We know today they did just about nothing other than issue a routine security notice to the Airlines. What they did do was put in place a massive Military response to a Bin Laden Terrorist attack on the U.S.

Like they knew we were going to take a big hit and they were ready to take out Bin Laden and his host the Taliban Regime in Afghanistan. If they had any desire to protect us from such an  attack they would have Implemented an upgrade in Airport Security as recommended by The Special Commission on Terrorism. This report was released in September 1999. The report with recommendations to improve security was rejected by the Republican controlled Congress. Trent Lott referred to it as rubbish, cost to much and nothing more than more Government control over the private sector. The Bush administration concurred with congress and shelved the entire report.

Yes, and wait till everyone finds out the rest of the story! It also seems that many of the actual hijackers were first detained by regular airport security, then mysteriously allowed to pass. Then there's two Bush slip-ups on tv---videoed interviews where he refers to seeing "the first plane hit" HOW? The more they dig, the more they'll find. It'll be a big "Defecto" that he'll win in the end! --BW in Maine

The way I see it. If there is any kind of evidence that is made public (no matter how small) that Bush had prior knowledge of the attacks and that thousands may perish, our country would face the biggest political scandal in its small history. This would dwarf both the Watergate and the Lewinski affair. Lets face it, people would be horrified. And Bush would not only lose his presidency, but he might even face criminal charges. I have a feeling we have an open can of worms here. –Rich  ##
