AN OKIE ELLIS PAUL FAN
Subject: Hi again from Oklahoma
Date: Fri, 6 Feb 2004 20:03:28 EST
Can I call you Al? I decided I'd read a bit more on your site just a while ago. Was thrilled to see someone else who takes such feel good from Ellis Paul. I've heard Ellis live a number of times at our Woody Fest in Okemah in the heat of July as well as the Blue Door in Oklahoma City. Have several CDs. He's something of a favorite
of the oddballs like myself in these parts. Very uplifting guy.
Have a grand weekend up there. Best, Cindy ##

ABOUT SID BERNSTEIN

Date: Sun, 8 Feb 2004 12:20:17 EST
Just read your piece, Sid Bernstein's Dutch Treat. I enjoyed it very much. Thanks for printing it. My name is Herb Malsman. I'm a longtime friend, (41-years) and a short-time colleague. Just read your piece, Sid Bernstein's Dutch Treat. I enjoyed it very much. Thanks for printing it. My name is Herb Malsman. I'm a longtime friend, (41-years) and a short-time colleague, (1963-GAC) of Sid's. Currently, Rock & Roll History is being re-written at his expense. The world is celebrating the coming of The Beatles, 40-years ago. Nowhere
in all the hype surrounding this occasion, do I see Sid's name mentioned. That's rather sad. Just as sad, is the fact, that while there are a number of non-performers honored in The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, including the late Bill Graham...Sid is not. Happily, Sid is still with us. I see him from time-to-time on Summer Sundays at
Strawberry Fields. I would hate to think, he'll have to die to be lip-serviced into the Hall!
Currently circulating online is a grassroots-generated petition which will soon be presented to the Hall, asking them to induct Mr. Bernstein. If possible, could you make your readers aware of the petition, and please sign it yourself. You'll find the petition at: http://www.PetitionOnline.com/SidB/ .

From: "Ian Reed" firstname.lastname@example.org
With regard to the fracas about the British Government "sexing up intelligence" on Iraq, and Lord Hutton's report siding with Blair against the BBC, here is what Shakespeare has to say:
"Robes and furred gowns hide all. Plate sin with gold
And the strong lance of justice hurtless breaks."

THREE YEARS OF BUSH
Subject: reflecing back on 3 years of bush
Date: Fri, 6 Feb 2004 06:19:42 EST
to think this President got less popular votes, which would have suggested to him, there was concensus to the middle. Naively I thought Bush would be a centrist president because that was clearly the will of the people. If a President wins by a landslide, one can say he has a mandate. But Bush, it could be said, did NOT win at all, but if he did, it was to be a moderate.
in 3 years the list of damage he has done is staggering, from the economy and jobs, to the record deficits, to savaging the environment, and destroying the good will of almost the entire world on 9/12, to a point where now we are almost universally hated. (his own State Dept. p.r. office says it will take years and years, if ever, to recover).
and this doesn't even begin to touch the deceit regarding the war. Tonight I watched an old clip of bush beating the drums for war with fear, suggesting to America Sadaam had nuclear capability, his words, "the smoking gun may come in the form of a mushroom cloud." shame on Bush for such calculating, lying tactics to scare and frighten. And now the WMD debacle, Bush is appointing a commission. Of course at first he objected saying it was not necessary.
There are no end to the lies. And Cheney, and Halliburton and no bid contracts and Scalia duck hunting.....it's truly overwhelming the damage this President has done. I'd say "miserable failure" is an understatement. ##

DID THEY KNOW IN ADVANCE?
JOYFUL ISRAELIS FILMED AS WORLD TRADE CENTER WAS DESTROYED BY JETS
It's a bullshit story that was circulated by pro-Islamist, anit- Israel conspiracy theorists. Like the story that circulated the Arab world that most of the Jews at the World Trad Center stayed home on Sept. 11, which was provably untrue and is debunked by the actual facts and numbers of Jews who died. Amiri Barak, named
Leroi Jones when I knew him personally in Newark, NJ where my Dad owned a restaurant next to City Hall and Police HQ was always a whacko. Even in the 60s when I was a radical hippie who was saying that I sympathized with the blacks who were burning down the city, he was too much of a crazy and too extreme in his anti-white, ant-semitic hatred for me.

RESOURCES TO MOBILIZE VOTERS
Subject: additional Democracy 2004 campaigns and resources
Date: Wed, 18 Feb 2004 11:59:28 -0500
From: Ted Glick" firstname.lastname@example.org
Below are some additional sources of information about campaigns and resources that can help to mobilize the
strongest and broadest possible peace and justice vote this November.
To view the full listing of these resources, go to www.democracy2004.org .
Voter Reg and Ed section:
The Hip-Hop Summit Action Network (HSAN) has kicked off a "One Mind. One Vote" political empowerment campaign, an effort that seeks to register 2 million voters in the next six to nine months and 20 million in the next five years. In the process they plan to create a national voter information database. HSAN is dedicated to harnessing the cultural relevance of Hip-Hop music to serve as a catalyst for education advocacy and other societal concerns fundamental to the well-being of at-risk youth throughout the United States. For more more information go to: www.hiphopsummitactionnetwork.org .
"Fat Mike" Burkett, owner of Fat Wreck Chords and leader of the punk band NOFX, has set up www.punkvoter.com as a clearinghouse for anti-Bush information while simultaneously encouraging voter registration. Burkett's goal is to secure 500,000 new voters--primarily punk rockers--in the 18- to 24
year old age bracket.
National Voice is a coalition of groups that came together in 2003 to maximize the impact of 501-c-3 groups in the areas of voter engagement, registration and turnout. Their four main activities are to help groups get involved in effective voter mobilization, creating and supporting local and statewide civic engagement campaign coalitions, involving individuals in voter mobilization projects and promoting a unified national media message campaign. Contact information: Mark Ritchie at 612-879-7500 or email@example.com or www.nationalvoice.org .
Project Democracy is a grassroots project funded by the League of Conservation Voters Education Fund to train and mobilize young people to make a difference in the upcoming elections. They are organizing Alternative Spring Breaks in Florida where young people will participate in conferences, followed by real world experience in the field registering thousands of new voters. Dates are March 8-13 in Orlando and March 15-19 in Gainesville. For more information go to www.projectdemocracy.org .
Issue-Oriented Popular Mobilization section:
The Accountability Campaign is a New York-based coalition effort to bring the perspective of people most affected by 9/11 and its policy aftermath into the national discussion about leadership. Over sixty organizations, including 9/11 family members, religious leaders, educators, environmentalists and immigrant-rights advocates, are participating. The Accountability Campaign will be actively involved in messaging and mass mobilization before and during the Republican National Convention. Contact information: www.accountabilitynetwork.org .
Defend Democracy and Electoral Reform
The Right to Vote Campaign aims to remove barriers to voting faced by people with felony convictions, so they may freely participate in the democratic process. They aim to achieve this goal by changing policies, practices and perceptions concerning felony disfranchisement at the local, state and national level. In addition to national groups, there are state partners in Alabama, Maryland, New York and Florida. Campaign elements include public education, community organizing, voter mobilization and registration, litigation and legislative advocacy. Contact: www.righttovote.org .
The Committee on Free and Open Election's (COFOE's) purpose is to gain justice for voters who support minor and new political parties, and independent candidates. COFOE has worked hardest on discriminatory ballot access laws, but is also working against laws that prevent minor party members from registering to vote as members of those parties, and laws that prevent minor party members from serving as polling place officials. For more information: PO Box 470296, San Francisco Ca. 94147, 415-922-9779, www.ballot-access.org .
